It’s equal parts farming simulator, role playing game and dating simulator rolled up into one series that’s been going strong for a decade and a half now, and has managed to inspire its own spin-off series, Rune Factory, to boot. You can get past Freshness issues by years 2/3, you can make mountain traveling easier by buying an owl, working hard to fix the tunnel and you eventually get a way to keep freshness forever via the Mecha Chicken or the UFO cart.Harvest Moon is an odd little franchise, as I’ve mentioned in the past. The cats are cute, I really liked the Bluebell mayor and Mikhail. It actually has some very cute characters and I love my quaint little Bluebell house. I love the soundtrack and beautiful mountain landscapes. TOTT: I'm actually going to play Devil's Advocate again and say while flawed, TOTT is really beautiful. You could probably play 4+ in game years and still be unlocking things. There is a lot of late game content and stuff to unlock. ANB has you basically build the town from the ground up, so until people start moving back in and you get enough materials to move more people in. It's the one feature really holding the game back from being enjoyable.ĪNB: I enjoyed it a lot, but I should warn that the beginning is verrrryy slow.

#HARVEST MOON TALE OF TWO TOWNS TUNNEL REPAIR UPGRADE#
When they ported the game for the 3DS I was really hoping they got rid of this stupid 1 upgrade per month nonsense, but sadly no. Your tool upgrades can also be done only once a month, and for the higher level tools you need rare ore that you are more likely to find in the mines, so once again, you either expand your farm and stick with c-b rank tools, or you expand the mine (which you have to do several times to get to a point where you can find ore) and have a smaller farm with little to no maker sheds. So if you want all farm upgrades and maker sheds, you won't be done until year 7 at the earliest. If there's room for a mine expansion, that job takes priority over farm upgrades, you don't get a say. All of the upgrades you need to open the mine and expand/build your farm are tied together and you can only have 1 thing done each month. You can unlock a tunnel between towns that makes getting to each side easier, but this is the one thing in the whole game that absolutely ruins it for me. The freshness that someone mentioned can be stressful, but I didn't mind it to much as the different horse carts you get can help maintain the fresh level for a while, but there is no fridge or cabinet in this game, everything is kept in your cart. I found the bachelors to be very disappointing, especially Kana and Ash (Kana is weirdly into his horse and Ash has a creepy sister who is super clingy, to the point that one of his heart events is his sister throwing a fit because she's jealous of you taking him away from her). Tale of Two Towns is so close to being great bus misses the mark in my opinion. You can put the buildings wherever you want and i love that freedom. I love the ability to customize the town. It starts off super slow (like most HM games but worse because there's only like 3 people in town and nothing to do) but once you get more people its so fun. I genuinely hold memories with the characters as if they were people I knew lmao. The marriage candidates are honestly some of my favorites and even if the in game sprites are kinda gangly and in turn the scenery isn't gorgeous (especially compared to TOTT), its still a great game. A new beginning I may have put the most time into, but thats including when I accidentally saved over my file and had to start new ? (talk about a new beginning smh) But the characters are great. I do love the art style and the overall feel of the game. I even chose the crop oriented village but it still felt like I was stunted with how much I could grow. The characters are fun and the request system is cool, but the actual farming mechanic leaves something to be desired. I enjoyed tale of two towns, but I invested less play time into it than a lot of the other games.
